Service Projects

Our chapter of MOMs Club is very active in our community, it is our desire to serve the Moms of O'ahu in creative ways this year.

August
We’ll be putting together cards to be used by one of our members, Julie Morgan, as part of her job in the NICU. These cards will be used to mark a baby’s milestones. Just a little keepsake for the parents.
Supplies we can use:
o Scrapbook paper
o Stickers
o Baby themed images or sayings

September
We’ll have another special day to make NICU Cards but we will also begin to collect costumes for the Waianea homeless shelter. They have a festival every year and often kids don’t have costumes to wear. If we get enough we also got interest from Kapi’olani Hospital to receive our old costumes for the kids in the hospital.
o Costumes from infant to teen, you might have previous year’s costumes in storage or an old formal dress (like a bridesmaid dress you would like to forget) ;-D
o Any new or used costume

October
 Continuing the Costume collection

November
We’ll share what we already have! Find all the things your kiddos have grown out of and bring them to the Book, Toy and Clothing swap, then for a few cents each item we can all get some “new” stuff as well as raise money for the Mom to Mom fund.

December
Adopt-a-Family – This seemed to be very popular in the past years, so we are doing it again. Information is not available yet on our specific family, but as soon as we get it, we will pass on the wish list so we can keep our eyes open.

January
Danya’s Gift – Brings newborn and preemie clothing to the NICU at Kapi’olani Hospital for the babies who are moving through the unit, giving parents hope. Starting last year we also put together party boxes for kids’ birthdays or final chemo treatment celebrations. Different themed shoe boxes for different ages of kids for an instant party.
o Newborn and Preemie sleepers, onesies and hats
o Small party plates, napkins, hats (all new in package please)
o Party favors or small toys appropriate for the hospital

February
Homeless Bags are bags that we put together and keep in our car for those moments when we pass by those people holding signs on the street. It’s an amazing way to feed a “man” for a day. As we get closer we will make a list of food items to add to the bag but for now we can start to keep out eyes open for…
o Sunscreen
o New toothbrush (individually wrapped)
o Travel toothpaste
o Dental floss
o Anti bacterial hand sanitizing wipes
o Bandaids
o Zip lock bags
o Napkins
o Plastic silverware

March
March of Dimes – At the monthly meeting in January the kids will have a chance to color a bank to collect dimes and loose change in for our donation to the March of Dimes walkers. Please save a formula can, tennis ball can, or any can with a lid that your child could decorate with markers and stickers.

April
No community service project planned for April.

May
Mother’s Day Care Pkgs for Moms with Sick Keiki. If your child was in the hospital what would you like to have as just a little treat to yourself, that’s what we are collecting. Ideas include,
o Chocolates
o Nail Polish
o Emery boards
o Fancy note cards
o A nice pen
o A good book
o A note of encouragement Mom to Mom
o Gift cards for photo developing or other stores (especially downtown)
o Anything special to brighten their day

June
Ready to learn-- We just finished this one, but we’ll do it again next year. We’ll once again collect school supplies. So as they go on clearance this year we can stock up.
